Hiyori Hayama has loved to sing since she was a child. She came to Tokyo to try to become a professional, but hasn't met much success. She's advised to try out for the special Extreme Hearts tournament in which artists and entertainers engage in a number of different hyper sports. These are sports in which the players wear Extreme Gear to boost their performances. Along with her only genuine fan, Saki Kodaka, and a friend of Saki's, Sumika Maehara, Hiyori forms an Extreme Hearts team named RISE--because they have nowhere to go but up. |

They get interviewed (by the town's shopping center), go on television (low-budget cable), and hold concerts (on the roof of the department store). The girls' salaries come from the town's taxes. Hiyori Suzumi has come to Tokyo from a small town to participate in the track program at Sakuragaoka high school. She had no idea why dark blue haired Yujiro Someya and blond Aizo Shibasaki, who she sits between, seem to be worshipped by all the other girls. It turns out that they are the two singers of a popular high school idol group known as Lip x Lip. They are supposed to be perfect matches for each other, but Hiyori can't help getting the impression that they actually hate each other and are obnoxious to her. Needing some money, she successfully interviews for a job as an assistant manager--and guess who she'll be managing. |

Mimu Emilton is a cute fourteen-year-old who has come to the annual Starland Festival to become an idol, just like her role model, Yuri. It is the most celebrated event on a united Earth, and Yuri, now the President of Earth, has encouraged people to join the ranks of Excellent Idols. Unfortunately for Mimu, she can never seem to make it to her audition on time, as misadventure after misadventure lands her in situations (usually involving undergarment exposure, I might add) that she escapes with the help of the current Excellent Idols, whom she befriends. Just as she makes her place on the stage and begins her audition, though, an unknown group of aliens kidnaps her and the Excellent Idols. One day Kohei Makino is asked to do a favor for classmate Mana Nagase. She has been identified by the Venus Project, an AI program, as having potential talent as an Idol and is about to undergo an audition at Hoshimi Productions. She's uncomfortable and would like someone she knows to accompany her. Makino agrees, and when Mana is hired he learns that he, too, has been hired as her part-time manager--that was a condition Mana set for signing a contract. Makino oversees Mana's meteoric rise to fame. They never fall in love, but he is absolutely loyal to her. Then, at the verge of complete triumph, Mana is killed in an accident. Makino's new task will be to train a new ten-girl Idol group. He has one major advantage: Mana's ghost occasionally pays him a visit and offers advice. |

At the Etoile Vio, a special school for wannabe male idols, Aido Seiya, Kanata Minato, and Mitsurugi Akira comprise the group 'Fire Fenyx'. Kanata is a former child actor, Akira was a well known model, and Aido is just enthralled by Idol performing. So far, they have not managed to attract much attention or build their brand. They've only been at the school for a week when they are informed of a difficult hurdle which they and the other groups of Class 3 must surmount: sell 3000 CDs within three months or be expelled. |

Yuya Niyodo is about the worst Idol one could imagine. He thought his good looks alone would make him easy money and is otherwise an apathetic and unmotivated performer. Having learned the truth about what a demanding line of work being an Idol really is, he only wants to quit. Asahi Mogami, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. She's a highly talented and motivated singer who would give anything to make a comeback as an Idol. One small problem: she's a ghost. |
