High school girl Nanako Usami became her town Nagarekawa's local idol at the request of her uncle. She and her upperclassman Yukari- a girl who seems perfect but ends up being air-headed- both become idols of their provincial area. They get interviewed (by the town's shopping center), go on television (low-budget cable), and hold concerts (on the roof of the department store). The girls' salaries come from the town's taxes. Together, the two form the "locodol" unit Nagarekawa Girls.

This slice-of-life comedy explores local idols in its focus on Nanako and Yukari's pairing into an idol duo to promote tourism for their small city. There is some meat to the storytelling for Locodol beyond light character humor as the local committee for the local idols plan events to promote their city's local customs and Nanako undergoes some gradual character development to be less nervous in her new profession. Humor for the series comes from the quirks of the characters kicking in fairly often such as Nanako's nervousness and Yukari being airheaded at points, which may or may not be your cup of tea depending on your interest in slice-of-life titles. In short, there's nothing too groundbreaking with Locadol with its focus on the local idol scene with Nanako and Yukari as a light-hearted comedy, but may strike your fancy if its genre and premise catch your interest.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2913#628]
(One episode watched):

This is a modestly amusing show about a shy and not too self-confident girl who finds herself drafted to perform as a sort of poor man's idol in a small town. But it seemed like more of a smile than a laugh show to me, and I doubt if the plot will go anywhere interesting. We don't really get to know Nanako all that well, so I didn't feel much of a concern about what becomes of her in this new career of hers, and nothing all that remarkable happens to her anyway other than dealing with a little stage fright. The show seems to be relying on goofiness and comedy, but, as usual, good jokes are in short supply. If I had time to burn perhaps I would watch this, but since I don't, I won't.
