Mayuko Chigasaki is a young woman struggling to make it in life. Early every morning, she delivers newspapers in her small town of Enohana. She attends a cram school in Tokyo by day, taking the bus and the train to get there. After school, she works at a local small eating establishment where she is the delivery girl. In the evenings, she works at the local (old) bath house in exchange for living in a small room above the facility. So in addition to school, she has three part-time jobs. |

Rent | Kaede is a normal girl busy studying for her school exams, when Shinobu, an apprentice ninja breaks into her bedroom. Kaede confronts Shinobu, who attempts to cast an invisibility spell (which fails) and she sneaks over to Kaede's underwear drawer, and begins to rifle through it. When confronted again, Shinobu starts to cry about her failed life, and how her ninja master Onsokumaru, (a very lecherous yellow ball thing) has given her a ninja task to steal a young girls panties. Kaede decides to let Shinobu take back one of her 'items', and their odd friendship is forged. So a very ordinary Kaede gets caught up in Shinobu's very strange and disorderly life in a secret ninja village. |

Only Yesterday revolves around Taeko, a single woman working a desk job in Tokyo in 1982, taking a vacation in the countryside with the family of her sister in-law. During her vacation, Taeko finds herself looking back at her time as a young schoolgirl growing up in 1966. The film flips back and forth between the two time periods with a lot of nostalgia and beautiful country scenery as Taeko sorts out her flashbacks and tries to make some tough decisions about her future. |
Acquired Taste: (Style) These are titles which are a bit off beat, uncommon or perhaps not targeted for the popular mainstream market. As such, these types of titles might take a while to get used to. One should probably watch several episodes before making up your mind.
