Yu-gi-oh GX is perhaps the best example of why it's hard for me to like anime that promote trading card games. The premise of the series is perhaps the most absurd and unbelievable I've ever heard of: a school devoted to teaching students how to play a trading card game. And just what kind of job would these kids get once they graduate? Why not take the time to learn the game yourself instead of wasting three years of your life at a school that seems pointless to set up. Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters, at the very least, created an interesting premise with the Millenium Items and the mystery surrounding the Pharaoh's origins. It's hard to take anything in GX seriously. It puts much greater focus on the card games than Duel Monsters. Plus, the characters are just cardboard cut-outs of character types I've seen from other anime titles. Judai isn't a fresh new face to see as he is just a hybrid of Yugi and Jonouchi (Joey Wheeler for English dub watchers) put together since he's a slacker, yet always lucks out in winning every match he is in. This isn't worth your time to watching at all. This series makes no effort at trying to create a decent plot and characters. This anime is just a walking advertisement for a trading card game. Wow just wow.. I didn't know something could be this bad. Just like Naruto I have near the same negative comments. The voices are like acting from a 20's movie. where...they...pause Last updated Friday, April 20 2007. | ||||||||
