In a future time, the lowest ranked baseball team in the league, Karumgamo High School, decides to pool their money to buy a baseball robot, (which is allowed under the rules.) With what little money they had, they could not afford a special baseball robot, and Haruhei had to accept buying a very old model domestic assistant robot named Azusa. It turns out that Azusa has never heard of the game of baseball, but she is always willing to help. Her ability to learn and her success as the pitcher of the team changes the Karugamo Baseball team for the better.

I'm surprised to see that nobody has reviewed this show which has been around for quite a while. I had acquired it long ago, but somehow never got around to watching it until now, possibly because I'd read some unenthusiastic reviews somewhere. I, on the other hand, enjoyed it. I had feared that it might be a sort of brain dead and utterly predictable show, but it definitely had some wit to it. It wasn't hard to guess what Azusa's secret was, but I really got to like her by the end of the story. I was modestly surprised by the potential tragedy that needed to be averted--the team members must decide which is more important: winning the games or their new comrade Azusa. The clearly focused artwork was interesting, as was the setting in the year 2099. The quality is at least equal to the average comedy TV series; the difference is that quality of this sort fits nicely into a 45 minute package (in combination with the novelty of a fresh premise), whereas it might be thinly stretched if made into a 13 or even 26 episode series. As a result my impression was of a simple, fun story which didn't overstay it's welcome. The best indicator of quality: it left me feeling good at the end.
