Ten year old Prince Lloyd, the 7th Prince of Saloum, is too far removed from the throne to have much chance of ever becoming King and cares little for status and glory. So, he spends all available time studying magic. He does this in part because his weak skill as a mage got him killed in a previous life, but he is sincerely enthralled by magic as well. He hears that a secret, 'forbidden' library exists beneath the castle which, among other things, contains an extremely powerful Demon, 'Grimoire', who once threatened to destroy the land but is now imprisoned within a book of magical spells. Lloyd cannot resist investigating, and finds that the rumors are largely true.

Magic and boobs are about all this show has to offer. The jokes are very weak and so is the personality of Prince Lloyd. He doesn't really make sense, for one thing: his last life ended when he was magically incinerated, but he loves magic so much that he pronounced the spell that killed him to be 'magnificent'(?). He was basically murdered for being a pathetically weak mage, yet as an infant in his new life he is able to magically blow a hole through the roof of the castle. How did that happen? His personality consists of nothing more than his fervent love of magic, and since we never really get to know him it's hard to identify with him and root for him. At age ten he has already become such an awesome mage that even the feared Grimoire can't hold a candle to him--all because he read books on magic in whatever spare time he had, apparently. Grimoire isn't all that interesting, either; he is quite evil and tries to kill Lloyd, but when he finds himself helpless against him he agrees to become lloyd's familiar and transform into the cute little pink creature shown above. I detected no amusing or intriguing quirks to his personality, just like Lloyd himself. I wish instead of weak jokes and topless girls (10 year old lloyd is allowed to bathe with women) more effort had been put into storytelling and character development. Remember, magic in and of itself isn't all that interesting; it's the characters and plot that make a good anime. Magic is like the gadgets in a James Bond movie. And Dainanaoji seems to have little more than magic and fanservice. The basic test of the first episode of a new series is whether I feel any need to know how the story will go, and in this case I don't.
