Goro Ono is an unhappy boy from a dysfunctional family and who takes 'psychotrophic tablets'. After a disturbing episode in which he saw a cat get run over by a truck, he finds a strange message on his I-phone: "You have been chosen. Please record your wish". He dismisses it as a scam, until a small, flying girl with a horn in her forehead appears to him. This girl, named Lall, informs him (though not immediately) that what he has been chosen for is to be a contestant in a fight-to-the-death to become God.

(Two episodes watched):

Early on in episode one, I was fairly intigued by this show, but once the basic premise was revealed I found myself less so. It didn't turn out to be nearly as novel as it had first seemed, being much like Future Diary. I feel that we haven't really gotten to know Goro well enough given that this show seems to be trying to be a psychological thriller. I did sort of like what he did at the end (apparently you are granted a wish each time you win a fight), though this had a sort of hurriedly tacked-on feel to it. In general things happened rapidly with meagre explanation once it is revealed that this is all a contest to become God. What, exactly, was meant by the line "Your wish came true, but the world got twisted to compensate"? The animation has a jerky, computer generated look to it, but this isn't excessively annoying. I suppose I will watch episode two to see if there is anything really unique about this premise and whether Goro will develop.

I had thought that after losing one fight Honoka would be out of the running, and that was one big reason why Goro spared her. But no, apparently things have just reset, and all the sacrifices he has made have just set things up for a rematch between them. That made no sense at all and I decided to go watch something else. Later, I returned and found that Honoka, Goro, and Goro's friend (also a candidate) have decided to become allies for now. Their opponent is 'Gas Mask Man', who wears a protective suit and goggles and can cast green fire (or was it the manipulation of fear that was his chief weapon?). Why didn't this person finish off Goro and his friend while they were unconscious in the school laboratory? He was able to run off. Other questions arise, like how would giving every competitor a different secret weapon determine who is best suited to be God? Why should God be whoever is strongest? Or most skillful at tricking people and stabbing them in the back? This show is missing the stuff which makes a series really intriguing and engaging.
