Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru

No matter how I look at it, the only way this show can possibly succeed is by fleshing out the main characters and giving us a plausible and heartwarming story of unhappiness being brought to an end. That's because it's clearly nowhere near funny enough to work as a pure comedy. But it soon became apparent that little if any effort was being made to expand the characters and the makers must have felt that this show was perfectly viable as a simple comedy. About all we learn about Nishimura is that she keeps her situation at school a secret from her father. We know virtually nothing about Takada other than that he's 'clueless'. And I can't help thinking that that's about as much as we will ever know about them. Nishimura's situation seems more sad than funny to me and having a clueless guy to cheer her up won't cut it. Actually, she seems to largely just ignore the mean jokes and keep to herself, so it's possible that the writer wasn't willing to give her a serious problem. It's like this show will neither be very funny nor tell us a meaningful story. I had pretty much given up on this show by the commercial break.
