Hanazono Yurine, or 'Black Xavier, the evangelist of the Devil', is the most powerful necromancer in the land. But she is tormented by Jashin, a half-human, half-snake devil that she inadvertantly summoned. Jashin would love to kill Yurine, since that would free her to return to hell. Unfortunately, she's actually pretty weak.

(Six episodes watched):

It soon became apparent that I was expected to already be familiar with the extensive cast of characters of this series. There was a mention, which I wasn't sure whether to take seriously, that this is no less than the third anime adaptation of this story. Though it wasn't completely original it seemed fairly distinctive, yet I couldn't remember seeing these characters before. But it turned out that yes, this is indeed the third season of Dropkick, after ones in 2018 and 2020. Maybe it is based on a doujinshi (amateur manga)--there was a mention at one point that it had been crowdfunded. At any rate, this show seems to play with the Fourth Wall somewhat, like the scene where different styles are used to draw the characters. I enjoyed that. Being unfamiliar with the cast, I didn't 'get' a lot of the jokes. I got the impression from the lines that were spoken that if I had a better idea of what's going on, this show might be more fun. Maybe I would be better off to go looking for season one than to hop aboard at this point. But I kept watching, and the show was modestly enjoyable. If it was a little funnier, however, the episodes wouldn't seem to drag as much as they do. There doesn't seem to be any longterm plot other than Jashin trying to kill Yurine every now and then. One pathetic character is a fallen angel, otherwise I can only guess what their status is. Episode six is sort of a tourist's guide to Hokkaido. in fact, the show seemed to be becoming more and more a travellog as we moved to yet another region of Japan in episode seven. I lost interest and decided to save the remaining episodes but quit watching for now. Without an interesting plot (or a longstanding familiarity and loyalty to the characters), this show was not quite funny enough to watch just for the jokes.
