This show was underwhelming me right from the start. I hope someday I'll be able to define exactly what the qualifications for being an intriguing, attractive new show are, but I know that this show didn't meet them. The Physis are pretty ugly and kind of scary, but I would much rather have thinking opponents with personalities and motivations than just monsters. Neither Faria nor Nemo (nor Faria's aide, Ellen) struck me as interesting characters. The bit about Nemo being unsure about what he is capable of and whether he'll live up to expectations might have been an interesting plot thread, except that it appears that he has already passed that test almost before we knew he'd be taking it. I hope it is not a tremendous spoiler to reveal that he is one of the Seven Knights as well. When the train the characters are riding on was attacked by a Physis, my reaction was 'Oh, come on--not another gaudy fight already'. In general, this was looking pretty formulaic and predictable to me. As I began writing my critique, I wondered if this might be a sequel to another unmemorable show, because it didn't seem to be making much effort to be original (but apparently it isn't). Perhaps the classic test of whether the first episode of a new drama has been good is whether it left you with any questions that you wanted answers to; this show did not. I was tempted to quit even before the ED sequence rolled.
