One day Arima Ichika narrowly saved a handsome but dizzy salaryman from tumbling down a flight of stairs. The man, Ryo Amakusa, turns out to be a shameless scumbag who has engaged in countless one-night stands with women whose names he barely manages to remember. But Ryo gets the idea that Arima is the one girl he has always been looking for, and can't let go of her.

(One episode watched):

OK, try to picture this: one day Ryo stumbles across Arima in downtown Tokyo, even though they had no plans to meet. A one-in-a-million coincidence. Then, Ryo's little sister (and Arima's friend) happens across the two of them--a one-in-a-billion coincidence. And then one of Ryo's former girlfriends happens to turn up as well--which makes this a one-in-a-trillion coincidence. This show seems to be powered by coincidences, which just feels weak and amateurish. But perhaps the biggest problem is the characters. Arima is OK except that she is too weak-willed to stand up to this guy who is basically stalking her. For God's sake, Arima, even though he is mailing things to you, don't actually show him where you live! But she does. And there was no reason for her to defend him in the argument with his ex-girlfriend. And Ryo himself has a fingernails-on-chalkboard effect on me. Right from the start, he is so tactless--not in a funny way but rather in a just plain obnoxious one--that I wondered if I could ever come to like him. His instantaneous decision that Arima is the perfect girl for him was hard to take seriously. Who would want to be this guy's perfect girl? He does get one compliment from a female coworker at his business, which suggested that maybe he's not all bad, but the evidence at the end of the episode was overwhelmingly against him. There needed to be some sort of surprise twist before the end to make him less grating, but it didn't happen. He seems to be a masochist of sorts, probably as a joke, but it wasn't funny. And Arima's friend hardly seemed like the sort of person you would want as a friend as she did nothing to defend Arima from her brother. After one episode I cannot believe that this is going to go anywhere good. Long before it ended I was saying to the TV "Hurry up and be over!".
