Rebecca
Set in Victorian era Maine, this short film follows the young girl Rebecca struggling to bond with her strict aunt Miranda after having to be brought under her aunt's care following her father's passing. A misunderstanding leads to an argument between the two that nearly cause things to fall apart between the two until both find they have to learn how their personal flaws affect one another and learning to better interact with each other. It's a pretty straightforward story, but the 24-minute runtime of Rebecca offers just enough fleshing out of Miranda and Rebecca's characters to explore the strain in their relationship and any personal flaws both have that are causing it. For a short film, this is gorgeously animated with detailed scenery of the rural setting and moments of nicely animated movement such as the subtle actions of Miranda's pet cat and Rebecca's musical performance while at school. In short, I'd say this is at least worth a look for anyone wanting a simple, short story told with its characters.
