Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahō no Sho
Grimoire of Zero is another entry in the fantasy-adventure genre in its focus on the witch Zero and a beastman mercenary who partner together to track the whereabouts of a powerful spellbook called the Grimoire of Zero that was stolen from Zero. The series offers solid world exploration and plot building exploring the activity of witches within the world of Grimoire of Zero, and offering more fleshing out of Zero's origins when more about the Grimoire's use and whereabouts come to light. However, character development is a bit of a mixed bag as while Albus gets development as he learns more about the realities of being a witch, Mercenary and Zero felt rather underdeveloped in comparison and the bond that the series attempts to push with them felt rather ho-hum due to its developments not feeling convincing and having its moments of making me feel dirty thanks to the series trying to push humor off Zero's advances on Mercenary in spite of her apparent age. Not helping matters is that the series lacks a conclusive ending as Zero and Mercenary are still traveling together, with Mercenary still not human. Still if fantasy-adventure titles grab your interest, there is enough solid development within Grimoire of Zero where I'd at least recommend checking it out at least once.
