Toji no Miko
(Part of one episode watched):|
One major turn-off for me in action anime is when fancy words are used to describe bizarre creatures, which come charging at us with little or no explanation. In Toji no Miko, what looked like a centipede with a core made of molten lava comes at us, and cool, sword-swinging girls swiftly take it down. Some sort of subconscious alarm went off in my head, warning me that all the signs here were of a cheap, generic anime of mediocre quality. Perhaps the giveaway was that this monster had been hurled at us without any explanation and that the show was apparently content with the shock value that the viewer would experience. But I'm not prepared to bet my precious time and trouble on a show that apparently just expects me to trust it. I noticed at one point that there was no background music to a scene, which, again, set off an alarm warning me of a potential low quality product that I had best stay clear of. All of this happened in the first few minutes of the episode, and I quickly decided to watch something else instead.
