Notable for being the first full-length Japanese animated film, Momotaro: Sacred Sailors is a product of its time period as Japan was still in the middle of World War II during the time production of this film came about and is essentially a propaganda piece glorifying the country's military. It appeared this was aimed at appealing to younger audiences and influenced by Walt Disney's work as well with the utilizing of anthropomorphized animals to represent the Japanese populace to fight against Western forces, though history didn't exactly go Japan's way as they were struggling against the Americans by the time Momotaro was finally released. For its time, Momotaro was nicely animated with nicely drawn scenic shots and moments of fluid movement with planes in flight and some of the later battles in the film between Japanese and Western forces. While a unique animated piece if you are a historical animation buff, Momotaro is still a product of its time and unless you are a diehard animation fan, this would be worth a rental at best.
