Another magic academy anime; was there ever a really good one, which set off the seeming flood of imitators? I don't remember. Maybe it was just Harry Potter that started all this. Within the first couple minutes I got the feeling that this was going to be a show with simple characters acting out a simple and unsurprising plot. Economy character designs are often a giveaway as to how much effort was invested in a show. Another is cheap thrills like one girl fondling another's boobs in a locker room (it's OK if they do it), and the victim getting a vaguely orgasmic thrill out of the experience. I found myself guessing what would happen next based on generic anime--like, when a guy comes dashing along a crowded street, would he trip and fall on a girl in a suggestive position? Actually, something slightly different happened. Would this obnoxious guy turn out to be the substitute teacher these two girls had mentioned? Correct. What would happen when this seemingly lackadaisical guy is challenged to a magic duel? I guessed he'd display remarkable hidden powers. He didn't, but based on the synopsis at ANN, he still will. In general, this show seemed very generic and unmemorable. Nothing startling or surprising happened, and I was fast-forwarding by the end. The only thing I can say for it was that the jokes almost made me laugh out loud. But I see no sign of an interesting or engaging story coming together, and will not waste my time for the sake of modest humor.
