By the looks of it, Kemono Friends seemed aimed for children with its dabbling into adventure and educational elements with the human girl, Kaban, being in an animal theme park with anthropomorphized animals in the form of girls known as Friends. The story for it is rather straight-forward enough to follow as Kaban journeys with a serval catgirl named Serval tagging along to aid her in trying to learn more about her origins, while meeting other animals along the way and dealing with a mysterious outbreak of creatures known as the Cerulean. Alongside this, separate segments occasionally come up featuring interactions between several of the animals encountered by Serval and Kaban, a documentary-style profile detailing information on the habits of any animals seen in episodes of the series, and an all-penguin idol group called PPP narrating the show's next episode previews. I'll admit the show has its charm with its premise and shows some surprising depth as there are hints to some rather ominous details on how things really are within its world. Only major gripe I have with it is the rather cheap-looking CG animation used for rendering its characters, as the details look rough and inconsistent at points depending on camera distance and angles. Still as something to entertain your children with, Kemono Friends isn't a bad option to consider having them dabble into with the simple story of Serval and Kaban's adventure mixed with the different animal facts learned throughout the series.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3314#628]
(One episode watched):

I was wondering if this was all happening within a zoo or if it was some parallel universe or something; episode one didn't make it clear where we stood. Some things about the show indicated a zoo, like the sign at the boundary between Savanna and Jungle realms, but others suggested something else. Like, what in the world are 'Ceruleans' big, globulous blue things which seem to transform into cubes if you kill them? I've never seen one of those in the dozen or so zoos which I have visited. Maybe a dodge to get around the inconvenient fact that animals tend to hunt and kill each other. That would be a problem, because this show has a cute, almost heartwarming tone to it. I was surprised that such a thing would run for a full 23 minutes; it seemed more like something which you would see in a short. But the story seems to be moving rather slowly, and the question of whether what's-her-name would ever find her way home didn't intrigue me much. The ANN synopsis claimed that somehow animals were transforming into half human, half animal creatures, but there was no mention of that in episode one, and therefore I doubt if it will be the main focus of the story. Probably just 'let's hang around with some friends who happen to be part animal' or something like that. A little educational blurb halfway through indicated that education was a secondary purpose of this show. After one episode, I was not sure what to make of this show and whether to watch any more of it. But I ultimately decided not to, perhaps because the confusion bugged me more than the cuteness and silliness made me feel good.
