A year has passed since the "Tachikawa Incident" in summer 2015. CROWDS -- the system that turns the mentality of humans into physical form that Berg Katze gave to Rui Ninomiya after extracting his NOTE -- has spread among the public. Prime Minister Seitarō Sugayama backs the plan, but not everyone agrees with his policy, and a mysterious organization attacks Sugayama's vehicle, marking the start of a series of new conflicts.

Much like its first season before it, Gatchaman Crowds Insight explores the flaws of a unique social phenomenon that influences its futuristic society that Hajime and the other Gatchaman have to overcome. In this case, a friendly alien being named Gelsadra lets loose with his powers in such a way that deprives many people of individual thought and having the single-minded desire to behave and think in a collective, thus serving as a critical look at conformity and popular opinion. The flaws of conformity and popular opinion also get explored with two new characters in the series with the newest addition to the Gatchaman team, Tsubasa Misudachi, being an idealistic character in favor of Gelsadra's new social system until she realizes the major flaws to it later in the series and terrorist Rizumu Suzuki who is opposed to both Gelsadra's social system and the CROWDS system developed by Rui, while having a low opinion on the majority of humanity for their inability to get out of being manipulated into following established popular trends. Like the prior season, Hajime and the Gatchaman do find themselves having to deal with Gelsadra's threat to humanity's independent thinking in some rather creative ways outside of fighting since they are aware that the alien's unique powers are fueled by whatever is the popular way of thinking among the majority of others. Overall, Insight is yet another solid season of Gatchaman Crowds thanks to its rather creative addressing of social issues that have relevance to society as as a whole.
