Saiki Kusuo has been a super-psychic since virtually the day he was born. Telepathy, psychokinesis, seeing through objects, precognition, teleportation, clairvoyance--you name it, he can do it. But, contrary to what one might expect, he finds his wide range of abilities to be an extreme nuisance and tries to keep them secret. In general, he takes a 'quite laid back' attitude.

This was one of the last new Summer 2016 anime series that I watched the first episode of, and it turned out to be the funniest. I was laugh-out-louding even before the OP sequence was finished. There was one truly LOL joke which almost left me with tears in my eyes. Character designs are distinctive and effective; there are a lot of visual jokes. Each episode consists of a number of separate skits in with Saiki must use his powers to get out of some sort of problem. I'm glad I stumbled across this show, almost as an afterthought, and gave it a try. On the other hand, the first half of episode two didn't impress me all that much; perhaps the initial effect of being introduced to the weird premise had worn off. Some skits are better than others. The show seems about as funny as a typical newspaper comic strip; that is, most of the time it makes me smile but not really laugh. It's odd that often times nowadays the funniest jokes in anime come not from all-comedy shows like this one but rather from well written action-comedies. Sometimes the sheer absurdity of the situations that come about are funnier than the jokes themselves. In general, my impression was that it was a little better than average, with some jokes that genuinely made me laugh. Saiki and several other characters have some personality to them, which makes them likeable. His deadpan responses to the idiotic things that people often do is the heart of the show. And the series ended well, with a little bit of resolution to his seemingly endless annoyance with ordinary people. 13 episodes was about right; any more than that and the show would have overstayed it's welcome.
