This series of short episodes uses the storytelling from the old man as a framing device for telling its horror stories. The horror from the shorts were pretty underwhelming for me as 5 minutes is too little time for genuine buildup of suspense and exploring the events leading it up to it. The majority of the shorts don't go into much depth about the supernatural elements that their victims fall prey to, as they mostly resort to horror movie tropes in subpar efforts to get a scare out of you. The cheap-looking animation with cardboard-cutout like settings and character designs and limited movement didn't do much to help me care for Yamishibai either. Overall, a mostly underwhelming horror title that is too short to offer up genuine scares for me.
