Shun is a modern day Japanese teenager with a hobby of collecting interesting stones, in particular crystals. One day a strange, glowing blue crystal in his father's laboratory draws him through some sort of gateway to an alternate reality, a place known as Endora. He finds himself in the company of Emilio, a deposed prince who is struggling to regain his rightful crown.

(One episode watched):

Endride seemed very pedestrian right from the start: another 'good prince/princess has been deposed by evil people and must regain the throne' anime. It seemed that just enough of a story was being told to keep the ball rolling, and little more. It had the (unexciting) twist that certain people can summon fancy bladed weapons from within themselves when they need them. Perhaps that's the problem: it implies that everything will be solved by winning duels, and the personalities and motivations of the characters are unimportant. The lines spoken by the characters need to be more lively; not just what needs to be said, to tell a modest story, but the sort of stuff that realistic, believable people really would say. The easiest way to screw up a story in which someone finds his/herself in a seemingly impossible situation is to have that person just shrug their mind-blowing experience off as if such a thing happened to them every day. I can't suspend disbelief if the characters themselves aren't behaving in a fairly believable manner. It almost seems as if this show was meant for children. Episode one didn't convince me that any particularly engaging story was being told here. What was the deal with the magical crystal in Shun's father's lab? Will the story take place entirely within Endora, or will it jump back and forth? I hope we get some interesting answers, because the story otherwise is decidedly uninteresting. Nothing really novel has happened (except perhaps for a brief animation of Shun's feet in motion which was made as if the camera was at foot level). Being at a loss to come up with any ideas that would be salvational for this show, I compared it to last season's Grimgar, which was also about modern day teens in an alternate reality. That show had something really original, namely the fact that the characters had no choice but to take their experiences very seriously, since they couldn't remember how they had wound up where they were. Endride, on the other hand, seems unexciting and uninteresting. The fact that it will be no less than 24 episodes long is enough to convince me that I should not commit myself to watching. My time is much too valuable for this.
