(One episode watched):

Something about 'The Lightless Realm', which is some place where some sort of bad stuff happens, and some children have wound up there (I think), and some sort of bad 'admonition' things exist, and some 'Dark Metal' stuff has something to do with it--or something like that. It is confusing. It pretty quickly became clear that little about this story, it's characters, or the way it was being presented to us inspired much interest within me. When tons of mystery but very little explanation is presented to us, I can't get very engaged or care much about what is going on. As is often the case, there's a weird, extradimensional, otherworldly threat which modern day people must live in fear of. Maybe part of the problem is that I didn't get much of an idea of just how serious this threat, the 'admonitions', was; is the world coming to an end, due to the relentless expansion of The Lightless Realm, or is this a relatively low grade threat that a few people will fall victim to, much like a serial killer? The population seems to be nervous but largely shrugging it off. Another weird thing is that apparently the only way to fight the Admonitions is with mecha. That kind of defuses the horror element and makes this a physical problem which must respond to the laws of nature like anything else. As is often the case, little effort seems to be being made to create likeable, interesting characters. This felt like shreds of a story instead of anything like a complete one. The end result is that I can't imagine that the explanation of all this weird stuff (assuming we ever get one) will be particularly interesting. This is so confusing that trying to make sense of it feels like it would be hard work and the entertainment I would get in exchange wouldn't be anywhere near good enough to make the effort worthwhile. Since I still don't completely understand the basic premise, maybe it will shape up later on--but I won't be holding my breath.
