Just another 4-koma high school girl slice-of-life comedy anime adaptation with its gimmick being all the girls involved are lesbians trying to sneak in make-out sessions whenever they have a chance. I have nothing against yuri anime as a whole, but Sakura Trick is a one-trick pony with its humor focused on the romantic shenanigans of our female cast and said cast is too archetypal to care much about. Only worth watching if yuri titles or 4-koma comedies like this grab your interest.

This one would be my first pick for watching in this season if I had more time, given my positive experience with both Sasameki Koto and Aoi Hana. At least it should completely rely on character relation development and be devoid of supernatural gimmicks.

The problem could be that, being based on a 4-koma, character depth might be lacking a bit.

This show seems to rely more on girls kissing than on jokes to attract viewers, and has a sort of a yuri theme. But they are only kissing, after all, not fondling each other or anything like that, so it's not particularly objectionable. In fact, it is more sweet than sleazy. The girls are likeable and I sensed potential. Still, the series got off to a slow start because without particularly good jokes and with more kissing than character development, I was initially kind of bored while watching. The problem with the show seemed to be that the jokes are not good enough for it to stand out as a comedy, and the yuri love is not daring enough for it to stand out as a romance. These seemed like just silly girls, not realistic people seriously seeking love and fulfillment.

But they grew on me over time. S Trick does have a hard-to-define 'cuteness' factor in its favor, I guess. Though not LOL funny, there is something pleasing about the silly atmosphere of the show; like episode eight, where Yuu mistakenly believes that Haruka has proposed to her. In many shows, my response would have been something like 'come on, nobody can be that stupid', but here the event just seems like something that is only to be expected (and it doesn't take Yuu all that long to realize that she made a mistake). The show is clearly trying to be a decent show, and the characters have a sort of silly charm to them. It took awhile, but I got to like them and care what would become of them. This show was using a silly rather than dramatic approach to romance, and somehow or other, in the end it worked fairly well. For all the goofiness and silliness, the show reaches a semi-moving conclusion. Like everybody, these girls only want to be happy, and if being together makes them happy, so be it. When the final episode came to an end, I was a little sad to see it go.
