Been years since I last seen the original TV anime of Mushishi. This TV special features Ginko helping out a small town affected by a strain of mushi blocking out the sunlight they receive for their crops and encounters a girl with sensitivity to sunlight due to her own affliction she suffered from the creatures. Hihamukage retains the carefree and dramatic mood of the original series as simple lessons about learning to value life are focused on from the girl's personal issues with her affliction affecting her daily life, which are explored in this 45-minute special. The animation style of the original series is retained here with its subdued color tones and clean details, while also making use of traditional and New Age musical pieces that are an excellent fit for this series. Following the end of the special, an announcement was made that a second TV season is due to air for the Spring 2014 season. Consider myself hooked on it for the next anime season. ^_^
