Mushishi felt more like an extended episode of the TV series, but in a good way as it focuses on Ginko tending to affairs in a mountaintop where a girl in a nearby town was born as the mountain's "lord" to maintain the life within it and finds herself conflicted whether to accept being part of the natural law making her the "lord" of the mountain or living life as a human with her family. While Ginko does try sticking to his normal ways of handling the situation as he does with other mushi at first, later events drive him to act on the girl's behalf that lead to sacrifices being made to ensure one of them are capable of living on. It is as much of a thoughtful and emotional movie as most of the episodic stories in Mushishi tend to be and the fact that this is the final installment of the franchise makes it a definite recommendation to those that enjoyed the unique and beautiful storytelling offered from the franchise throughout a decade.
