This made for an enjoyable movie. A Letter to Momo mixed around comedy and drama focused on 11-year old Momo still getting over the recent loss of her father while putting up the antics of a trio of troublemaker goblins that only she is able to see. Basically, this is a coming of age film where Momo learns to get over her insecurities from moving with her mother to a new seaside town and her father's death, the latter affecting Momo greatly from guilt she has for getting in an argument with him before his death. The goblins that Momo interacts with provide much of the comedic relief in the film as Momo has to put up with their habits of stealing food and belongings from the townsfolk, while also learning that they may have some connection to her father. The movie offers enough fleshing out and development for Momo and the the goblins where we come to learn of their situations with Momo gradually changing for the better as the film progresses.

Visually, A Letter to Momo features detailed, vivid shots of the island town settings occupied by Momo and other characters with a subdued color palette used in the designs of scenery and characters. Character designs employ a lifelike animation style for human characters featuring realistic details and proportions. The goblins were drawn to be as out-of-place as possible with their designs, which certainly shows with the size and proportions of their limbs and facial features. The animation for the movie was solid in most instances with characters moving about at a natural pace without any loss in detail or fluidity. The animated highlight for the movie with me comes from a later sequence that involve the three goblins conjuring up a large cluster of local goblins to aid Momo.

A Letter to Momo is a worthwhile family film to check out offering a nice mix of comedy and drama involving Momo's family problems and her interactions with the trio of goblins.
