Sket Dance mostly follows an episodic story setup in its focus on the members of the school club known as Sket-dan committed to resolving problems faced by a number of mostly eccentric students and faculty members among their high school. The series dabbles into comedy for a good chunk of its run poking fun of character archetypes common in high school themed anime, breaking the fourth wall, characters getting in bizarre predicaments and referencing other anime titles. With the exception of one episode, I wasn't really digging much of the comedy of the series since it felt quite forced throughout its run, even including a crossover episode with the main cast of Gintama that it gets compared to by fans. A few episodes in the show get into the back stories of the three Sket-dan members which offered some rather dramatic situations for the three and made for the highlights for me since the show's forced humor was hardly present. But beyond said episodes, I struggled at points just to plow through the show and many of the characters only exist to pull whatever running gags they are associated with with little in the way of depth, said gags getting repetitive with time such as Switch showing off his otaku side, Roman regularly breaking the fourth wall and Reiko being the archetypal scary-looking student. I don't know why Sket Dance gets as much fanfare as it does, but it doesn't do anything that I've seen differently from other comedy and shounen titles as the former felt way too forced for my tastes. This is a 70+ episode series that isn't really worth the time to watch into.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2425#628]
(One episode watched):

Eh, this show didn't seem particularly funny and the solution to the first case wasn't all that interesting (I guessed it ahead of time). The characters are weird but haven't really been given enough depth to be likeable. In fact, they seem kind of stereotypical, especially the usual wild fighting girl who can take down any guy faster than you can blink an eye. I found myself impatient for this show to wrap up so that I could move on to something else.
