Watch 8 8 8 8 8 8 Dreamer [series:2072#2279]
Having watched the first series, Maria+Holic, I figured this one was a safe bet. Afterall, we get to see the same cast of characters and then some. And it was well worth it.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
Artwork and animation was pretty much identical to the first series. Please see my review there for more details. However I must say, the "Dorm Manager" is a character! Wow, sooo kawaii and a crack up. Love her character the most. In my opinion, she makes the series worth watching if for nothing else.

Music
The OP is a strange one. Can't quite explain the style. But for sure, it was meant to have a good deal of humor... which it does. The ED(s) were catchy and fun. Really liked the one found in episode 2 with it's alternative-pop style. I found this soundtrack not as abstract & modern sounding as it was in the first series.

Series and Episode Story
If you've seen the first series, it's more of less the same stuff here. It's not meant to have any real story or plot. It's mainly episodic and geared towards a slapstick humor. If you're new to MH, then you can get away and watch this series without really missing a beat. Maria is still her usual self harassing poor Kanako... which at times is funny and at times not so much. This series does have its moments, such as in episode 2, OMG, episode 2! Ok, not the funniest thing in the world, but had me chuckling nearly throughout the whole silly episode. Wow, dorm manager is just too funny here.

Overall, it's a fun and funny series to sit back and relax to. The dialogues at times are quick and witty so you'll have to pay attention but then again, it's not crucial to the series as a whole. Fun.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2072#628]
(Three episodes watched):

This new series got so little fanfare that it almost slipped past me unnoticed. I had mixed feelings about the first season: it definitely had some quality to it, but the mean-spirited theme of Kanako continually being harassed by Mariya and his maid left a bad taste in my mouth. Kanako is continually put down, and whereas I felt sorry for her it appeared that I was supposed to be laughing at her misfortune, which is slightly disturbing. That was hardly a 'deep' show; I remember very little about it today. And it looks like this second season will be exactly the same. Episode one suggests the same 'filler' episode style, with crazy things happening but no serious attempt to provide an ongoing story, character development, or anything fancy like that. These are just bundles of jokes and each 'arc' lasts exactly 23 minutes. They are funny at times (which makes MHA better than a number of recent supposed comedies), but I can't help feeling that my time might be put to better use elsewhere.

I think that a good deal of the problem is that this is the sort of show which has some good jokes (I liked the mecha-parody OP sequence in episode two), but the need to continually pause and read subtitles demolishes the jokes' timing and they lose a lot of their humor. Still, quite funny at times. This second season seems less mean-spirited than the first one, IIRC.
