Some 850 years ago, during the turbulent Heian period of Japanese history, a Buddhist monk was born in the village of Hino near Kyoto.

↗Nembutsu. Over the span of his life, he became respected for being a devoted Buddhist and loving parent. In addition to being revered as a great teacher, Shinran wrote a number of important texts about the teachings and helped found the
↗Jodo Shinshu (Buddhist) sect.
In a typically Japanese fashion, this (1:48min) movie was created to honor his memory and tell the story of his life. With a strong focus on who the man was, this movie forgoes the more complicated spiritual aspects of his life to tell the simple tale of how he became attracted to Buddhism and of the life he led.
