Karin Maaka is the middle child of a family of vampires who immigrated into Japan 200 years ago. Karin, although technically a vampire herself, is very different from the rest of her family. Instead of lacking blood, her body overproduces it. In order to get rid of the excess blood, once a month, she must give in to her urges and find someone to bite. Instead of drinking their blood, she gives them some of hers, leaving both her and her “victim” feeling refreshed and energetic. Despite these troubles, she still has to go to school and tries to hold down a part-time job. Everything is going reasonably well for Karin, until a transfer student, Kenta, joins her class. For some reason, her body reacts to him, and begins producing more blood than she can stand. He eventually finds out about her condition, which leads to quite a bit of difficulty. Now with a strange boy knowing her secret, Karin’s already complicated life becomes more chaotic.

Based on the manga by Yuna Kagezaki

I couldn't really get pass the fact Karin was a typical bubbly, klutzy, easily embarrassed and well-endowed female lead within this romantic comedy anime, even with the blood-making vampire premise. I guess my ongoing hate for romantic comedy titles that offer the same stuff continues. Ditching after only two episodes.

Watch 10 10 10 10 10 10 Violet D [series:1207#1393]
I watched this one a couple weeks ago and love it. Needless to say I'm partial to the Vampire theme and really like this one. I want to watch more and more episodes when I get the time. I have watched more and more of this one and for fun found the Manga of it. So sometimes what I like to do is see if thebook goes along with the anime. this is a fun one to watch and has a great ending. But I'm getting ahead of myself. All I saying is you won't be disappointed.

The plot itself is what sold me on this one. And after watching it, it turned out really enjoyable and worth every minute spent on it.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
The art was well done. It had rich colors, good level details and animation was smooth. Character designs well another plus. Cute characters and clean nicely drawn figures. Both Karin and her little sis Anju, wre uber kawaii!! Especially when Karin will get beat-red out of embarrassment.

Music
The OP was pretty good. It was a pop piece but not with the usual high-pitched female vocals. Not bad at all. Other pieces were nice, with a mixture of modern asian flavors.

Series and Episode Story
I actually really liked this series. All the characters were great. They did well for the episodes and weren't simply just fillers. All the episodes were fun, entertainning and had plenty of laughs. As someone else had mentioned, it really is a well-rounded anime that will satisfy most viewers. By the end of the series, things were wrapped up nicely .

Overall, it was a good fun watch. Great characters, lots of laughs and just an overall well rounded show.

This was pretty good! watched it afew months ago and forgot to review this...

it had comedy, suspense and romance. I particularly like Anju, Karins sister, shes so cute and emoly funny - especially the ep when Karins best friend stayed over and she got jealous and started chopping the chopping board with the knife! LOL! never give her a knife i'd say!

I don't know if it's just me or does Usui-kun remind you of Ichigo from Bleach?

Ayways...a very interesting and humorous series, lots of characters with different personalities. Happy that i got to watch this series.

Thanks, Stretch, for recommending this. Karin is one of those series that has a little bit of everything: comedy, romance, suspense, action, plot twists, etc. It has plenty of characters to cover a wide range of personalities, but not so many that you feel they're adding them just to keep the episodes going. The characters develop far enough that you are satisfied that something happened, but not so far that you can't see how they got where they ended up, or feel that they're different people than they started out as. None of these elements stand out as exceptional, yet they are all fitted together so skillfully that, at the end of the show, all you can do is say to yourself: "That was fun!"

Favorite line: "Her body is composed of 98% embarrassment."

(All episodes watched):

Vampires have clearly gotten a bum rap from humans. Being bitten by one can actually be quite beneficial! Those are a couple of the lessons I've learned from Karin. Going in, I was under the impression that Karin somehow injected blood into the people she bit--helping them out if they're anemic, I guess--which didn't exactly turn out to be the case. How exactly each vampire's bite affected a person's emotions (or vice versa) remained unclear. I had a hard time getting into this show at first, but it grew steadily on me and I really enjoyed it. This was not just silly episodic comedy, rather a well thought-out long term plot came together--"well thought-out" in the sense that it made sense and even I understood it! I like shows where what might seem at first to be trivial, disposable incidents and comments later come together in a skillful manner to form a plot, and this would be one of them. Perhaps my favorite episode was number fifteen, in which Karin's grandmother (who hasn't aged a day in decades and is her spitting-image) suddenly shows up. It was both extra funny and surprisingly intense and scary. This ability to balance comedy and horror effectively was really impressive (and surprising!). Karin's Rei-clone sister Ayu had her moment when Karin is reminded that she is a genuine vampire, after all. The final episode was also very intense for a comedy, yet came off without a hitch. I'll almost certainly rewatch this series some day.
