This is a very taboo story about incest and love between twins. Yori`s attitude has changed. He and his twin sister, Iku, used to be inseparable as children, but lately Yori`s been different -- eager to be apart from Iku. Iku worries that he hates her, but the truth is far more scandalous. Now, Yori would risk losing everything to have his little sister. Iku loves her big brother enough that she would never risk losing him, and so she`ll do what it takes to keep them together... but Yori doesn`t want to have her that way -- as a sister dedicated to her twin. Can Iku ever love Yori not as a brother but as a man?

A complex topic like incest takes time to develop. With this being only 1 OVA, I was skeptical this could tell a decent story. I was right.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
The art and animation was done well. Very rich and vibrant colors and high level of details. As for character designs, they were done well, but I had a hard time getting use to some of the facial artwork. It seemed slightly off.

Music
The OP was a nice classical style piece that sounded pretty good. The music throughout this anime were mostly light piano solos and similar.

Series and Episode Story
Being on a taboo topic, this is already axed from many of the viewers. However, I'm more relaxed on such topics.... don't bother me one bit so long as the story isn't too bad. The problem we have here is too much story in too little time. It's really condensed so you really don't get to enjoy the characters, their intentions and where they are going as it progresses. In light of all this, there's still enough given and understood to be able to follow along. It wasn't "all" bad. Ultimately it ends up being a tragedy... if loosely. Aside from all that, it's still worth a watch... only once.

Overall, it won't work for many viewers but if you don't mind such technicalities, and you're into taboo subject matters, then you might consider this. Aside from that, move on to greener pastures.

The Pros: The only redeeming quality to Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru was the catchy opening and closing songs that were chosen for the beginning and ending to the series.

The Cons: Just about everything else is wrong with this series, mostly due to the fact that the series tries to resolve everything with the characters in just under 45 minutes. The problem with doing the series in this way is that events look rushed, the characters have shallow personalities, and the series relies on too much melodrama to force viewers to feel sympathy for the problems of the characters. The characters in the series have hollow personalities. Yori always looks frustrated and bitter, regardless of how events progress in the series. Iku is just as hollow always looking confused and bewildered over her brother’s actions. Even with the rushed events of the series, both characters still have the same hollow personalities they started with by the end of the OAV. The combined use of a rushed plot and melodrama creates an absurd amount of unbelievable developments in Yori and Iku’s relationship which would tire viewers quickly instead of keeping them interested. Stages in the relationship only take about 5 to 10 minutes to progress making them lack any sense of natural progression or believability. The series even desperately tries to be the next Koi Kaze going so far to force the thought onto Iku about people finding out about her relationship with her brother in the middle of the series. However, it ignores the fact that the thought never struck her mind at earlier points in the series when she was starting to give in to the relationship. Koi Kaze had believable circumstances where brother and sister could be attracted to each other from the long period of time that they were apart which in behavioral anthropology would be called Westermerck effect. Boku wa Imouto ni Koi o Suru lacks such realism in its plot because of how condensed the events in the series feel. As to be expected with this sort of anime, conservative audiences would be hesitant to seeing this series since it explores a taboo relationship. This would especially be a concern since Yori and Iku’s family is obviously shown to be a Christian family and this aspect could offend religious viewers if they ever seen this anime.

Facts on the OAV:

-Based on the manga made by Aoki Kotomi, which is currently unlicensed in America.

Actually, nothing is happening here, really - except for the brother wondering what he should do, and whining.
If you want to see this kind of story dealt with in a sensible and reasonable way, go to Koi Kaze.

Avoid Stretch [series:1055#628]
There seems to be a whole sub-genre of anime in Japan dealing with incest, and I became curious. As a child, Yori vowed to his parents that he would marry his beloved sister Iku someday, which they thought was cute and silly. But flash forward to the present day, and suddenly Yori is a troubled, angry teenager who is hard to sympathize with. Furthermore, Iku initially doesn't have a clue that Yori doesn't just love her as a brother ought to, he loves her. I suppose it was possibly never the intention of this show to portray incest as a wonderful thing, but as a source of entertainment I can't help thinking that the plot would have worked better if both siblings had become well aware of their feelings for each other, resulting in a sort of Romeo-and-Juliet-type doomed romance. As it is, however, I found this show to be neither risque nor particularly touching--it was boring! Characters changed their minds too easily, turning 180 degrees at the drop of a hat--real people don't act that way! The music seemed somehow overdone or inappropriate, as if the intention was to use it to force-feed me emotions to compensate for a dull script. A touch of comedy near the end seemed odd, since no attempt had been made to make this show funny up 'til then. And then there's the inconclusive ending, which left practically no answers to my questions--will things work out all right for Yori and Iku? Will they be happy? The whole message of the show seems to be "an incestuous relationship develops between a brother and sister--The end". Blaugh... I was tempted to assign this show a rating of "avoid", but since I didn't quit before it ended I initially gave it a just barely earned "watch".

The problem with the rating of "Watch" (at least for me) is that it covers a much wider spectrum than "Rent" or "Buy". Anything worth watching but not worth paying for... that would encompass more than half of everything on TV nowadays, wouldn't it? There are a lot of variables, too--like is this the only show I have on hand, or do I have an absolute mountain of anime waiting to be watched? Since nowadays I do have a mountain, I'll degrade this to "Avoid".
