As stated when adding a new Anime entry, the primary name should be the original name (Japanese in Roumaji).

Jan-Chan, why did you then change this name in Juuni Kokuki?

Since you started this topic, I change the Romaji of "Furuutsu Basuketo" to "Fruits Basket," only because that is what the Japanese are actually trying to say. Also, I note that we do "Love Hina," "Air," "Cowboy Bebop," "Trigun," etc., this way so I hope my modification was OK. ^_^;

I'm not the one to decide what's "okay" - I just want to ask why somebody deviates from a written rule by Rebecca (instead of simply revoking Jan-Chan's modification) in a case where the Japanese name is obviously different from the English translation.

We all connect and login via cookies, but the casual visitor does not .. which results in the MIKOMI site displaying AMAZON TITLE matches (a revenue source for Rebecca) ..

I was wondering why Juuni Kokuki was not displaying the corresponding Amazon link, which got me wondering if it might not be trying to make a match off of the 'primary name' of a series.

Let me play with some more and share with you my findings.

I did a search for "kokuki" in Amazon.com itself and saw at first glance that the two names Amazon would deliver meaningful results for would be "12 Kokuki" or "Twelve Kingdoms".

I set the latter one in CAR to doublecheck this theory, and according to my MSIE (that doesn't have the cookie) it works as expected. It's still set this way for you to see the result.

Still, I'm not sure at all whether we should set anime names as Amazon commands.

Back in this thread Rebecca explained how this CAR features actually works, and someone even suggested to make that configurable via a notable setting. This would be my preferred way of dealing with Amazon - provided Rebecca returned from the dead, that is...

Renamed KGNE to Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. No more Japanese Oil Wrestling in the Amazon ads now but the correct product links instead... oh well.

Renamed "Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo" to Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo. The Japanese Oil Wrestling seems to be the second prominent hit for every query about Anime that doesn't cause any single hit (*§%&@ Amazon folks...).

Left Seirei no Moribito as unfixable (none of the names we have works, not even "Moribito" alone).

Surprisingly enough, both Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Tsuiokuhen (Samurai X) and Mushishi (Bug Master) work fine with their Japanese names, so it's up to Amazon whether they make decent entries or not.

I'm sorry, but if Rebecca wants Amazon revenue from the pages, then they're going to have to code it as such. Changing all of the Japanese titles to English ones is not something we should be doing IMO. I'm all for Rebecca getting paid for the site, but that's their responsibility, not ours. Ours is to make make our piece of the site's content the best it can be and since we create pages with the Japanese titles (in Romaji) and not the English ones, that's how it should stay.

I agree completely, and renaming the animes listed above wasn't meant to be permanent either (just playing Jan-Chan's game...).

So I suggest we use this thread to list animes where sending a different search term to Amazon would fix the ads issue but leave the Roumaji name as primary name and wait for Rebecca to implement some mechanism where we can configure this (be it a new anime table field, a special notable syntax such as "Amazon Name - Twelve Kingdoms" for Juuni Kokuki or whatnot)... okay?

Rebecca, are you reading this? Would you care doing something about this issue so that we can rename the animes in question back to their Japanese title without damaging your Amazon revenues?

I was not reading this. Not sure how I missed it. Japanese Oil Wrestling seems to have been removed (thankfully).

It does NOT match off the primary name. It matches off all names. The english language release title should probably be included as one of the alternate titles. If that fails to match something at Amazon then yeah, tough beans for Amazon, they get no link.

Ah, and Japanese Oil Wrestling was showing up when the title was set to: kanjikanjikanji (Japanese)

As it'd do a search on Amazon and only the word "Japanese" would be used in it.

Oh, and if you're wondering, Kenshin was matching 'cause I manually entered ASINs for its DVDs ages ago.
