Rizelmine - 1: Suddenly! A Young Wife?!

Title:Rizelmine
Episode:1: Suddenly! A Young Wife?!
Synopsis
Iwaki comes home from school in a bad mood, since the teacher he secretly has a crush on has announced her engagement to someone else. He is met by Rizel, who promptly and joyfully declares herself his wife. Iwaki, who is "into older women", argues that this is impossible since he's only 15, but Rizel's three MIB-ish "papas" have all the right paperwork and his parents have endorsed it (thanks to a number of "perks" offered by the papas). He cannot tolerate Rizel's continual clinging to him, and introduces her to the ceiling. The papas are outraged, since "Rizel is composed of cells containing special DNA, engineered by our nation's top scientists"--in other words, a "protomankind". Rizel herself doesn't mind, and in fact is delighted that "I was just yelled at, thrown, and hit for the first time by my husband!"

Stretch 5/26/05:

Yes, if you took this series at all seriously it would be extremely distasteful, what with all the slapstick wife-beating. I think I need to do some more thinking about why violence in anime sometimes offends me and sometimes doesn't bother me at all. Anyway, I became interested in Rizelmine because I read it was a lot line Final Approach, which I found to be surprisingly enjoyable. I immediately noticed that character designs and use of colors in this series are distinctly superior to their equivalents in FA. The OP sequence is cute, too. When I first saw Iwaki, I had a funny feeling I'd seen him somewhere before... maybe Sunabouzu with his helmet off?

[Forbin 05-26-05] Actually Ikwai looks a lot like Shu from Ima Soko ni Iru Boku
