Ragna is a Dragon Hunter of no particular aptitude. His only skill is that some sort of curse seems to attract dragons to him, but they only kill those around him, not Ragna himself. He teams up with Leonica, a twelve year old girl who is a Dragon hunting prodigy and slaughters them wholesale when they are attracted to Ragna. But Ragna has a disturbing premonition that involves a strange man telling him that Leonica will soon be killed if he doesn't do something. Ragna eventually makes sense of this experience and is granted the skill and power to be a first rate Dragon Hunter himself. He vows to exterminate the creatures altogether.

This show seems to have some neat touches, like the odd partnership between Ragna and Leonica and the identity of the man from Ragna's dream, but I wish it had all been explained better. How was the time travel and the transfer of skill and experience that took place possible? The two ways Dragons can be killed seemed better suited to vampires IMO. And what exactly are Dragons in this show? The toughest can transform into semi-human form and they have a 'Dragon God' whose bidding they do. And Ragna has now catapulted forward from mediocre Dragon Hunter to the absolute best and is determined to wipe them out altogether, because they are...really bad? I wish his motivations were made more clear. How could any self-respecting Japanese male tolerate working with a girl who is clearly better at what they do than him? Also odd was the mix of technologies, with railroads, cameras and rifles (useless aginst Dragons, of course) being shown. It looks like 'Crimson' will be a third main character who has yet to appear. It all seems to be based on a Square Enix video game. Altogether, this 47 minute opening episode left me with more good than bad feelings, and I am curious what the story behind Crimson will be. But I wonder if pursuing a crusade against bizarre Dragons to the Final Boss will be a really intriguing plot.
