Set in a medieval time, the Yoma (demons) have been feeding upon the humans. They have become so skilled that when they feed upon a person completely, they can assume the form, mannerisms, and memories of the people they kill. This allows them to blend into society where they cannot be found. Whenever these Yoma appear the Claymore follow. This is a group of young girls dressed in armor and sporting large '↗Claymore' swords. Their job is to hunt down and kill all of these Yoma. Half Human and Half Yoma, these 'girls' only live to kill demons. Possessing super speed, strength, and healing abilities, they hunt down Yoma for any village that can pay the price.

This anime was reminding me in some ways of Berserk in the fact both explore a dark medieval world full of corruption, suffering and enough demons wrecking havoc with an anti-hero/ anti-heroine out for revenge against someone from their past while slaughtering said demons. Both also have a nice amount of graphic violence with very bloody and gory outcomes to battles. In the doom and gloom of Claymore, Clare is out for revenge against a former Claymore who killed the woman that became a surrogate mother to her. The series explores how Clare and each of the Claymores live their lives and what they believe in as they are diverse in personality and their past circumstances. The series also devotes several episodes in exploring Clare's past to give the viewer enough sense of her tragic upbringing and why she seeks revenge. The series also depicts some questionable actions from the vary organization that Clare and the Claymores work for as they are quite often forced to either slay their own teammates if they turn traitor or close to Awakening or send them off to their doom against powerful threats they have little chance of getting out of alive. Unfortunately, the series ends on an open ending as the motives of the Organization and the group of Yoma organized are left unclear, as well as Clare and a number of the Claymores choosing to separate following some major plot developments.

The visual and aural presentation of Claymore was a bit of a mixed bag for me to take in. Visually, the series does sport good-looking scenery and character designs that sport a good amount of detail and dark, faded coloring that do well in depicting the dark mood that the series gives off. However, animation is lacking a bit during action scenes as the series resorts to panning and still shots while the background moves and animated blurs in a mediocre attempt to simulate movement. The music is also a bit of a mixed bag for me as some of the choices for music were a bit too upbeat and whimsical or too modern (rock music played during intense action scenes?) to fit in with Claymore's dark and medieval setting.

Getting past the open ending and my mixed reception of the show's presentation, Claymore did make for a decent dark drama exploring how the Claymores lived their lives while holding onto their humanity and dealing with the corruption of the group they work for.

All episodes watched...

Usually i watch things with comedy in it, this is actually the first anime that i have watched without comedy at all.

I'm glad i did, cos this series is GOOD! i was hooked from the begining. The story line was different (moved at a very steady pace) and the claymores IMO are pretty. Claymore has more things going on then what the description says (actually A LOT more). It's abit hard to explain in two sentences what claymore is all about, and if i write a full page you'll be so sick of reading, i can tell you that it has friendship, companionship, love and revenge.

The fight scenes were pretty good as well.

A very interesting series. i think there is going to be a 2nd season (i hope) because the ending was left opened and also the manga is still running.

Give it a try, it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but at least you know you won't be missing out on something good.

So popular on Anime Suki that it gets it's on Forum, I had to check it out.

Hmm, don't know if I like this. It gives such a Fate Stay Night feel to it, especially Claire. But the Artwork is so off track for me (good but doesn't give the right vibe) that I might not continue it.
