The middle-school-aged Suzukaze Sota is always being looked after by his cousin, next-door-neighbor and best friend, Ringo. She is waking him up each morning and making certain that he is eating properly each evening, when his father is out. But Sota has these reoccurring dreams in which he sees a cute cosplay warrior girl who defeats a large monster. And then one day, Sota at first encounters a larger-than-life gray wolf at a well outside of his house whom he brings into his house, then when being attacked by a monster of evil, he is surprised and helped by Akazukin, the warrior-girl of his dreams. As Val and Akazukin are exausted by their ordeals, he shelters and protects them, feeling that he has to hide their presence from Ringo. But Ringo does catch him and Akazukin together, and becomes very jealous, so much so that she accuses him of having found a new girlfriend. The dark forces of the evil witch are not idle, and have taken to following Akazukin and Val in hopes of finding the magic key. They have been able to track them to Sota’s home, where they launch a surprise attack..... While appearing to be oriented to the young crowd (all of the main characters appear to be 12 or 13 years old,) this is a very fun fantasy adventure story that just charmed me. It was originally planned as a 4-episode OVA, but after the first episode: everything changed. They stopped the OVA and then launched a 39-episode TV series. Last updated Thursday, September 11 2008. Created Tuesday, March 29 2005. |
