This episode is an integral part of ADV's vol.1 Nurse Witch Komugi-chan DVD (which is why I give it a "Rent"). I was under the impression that this would be pretty much all music video, but in fact there are only two songs with some fairly amusing original animation in between. I fast-forwarded through Kyousuke's song, which seemed a downer, but listened to Komugi's tune (though it has vanished from my memory two days later). I would definitely have prefered another full episode of this OVA series, but Eeh, it could've been much worse.

After the original Nurse Witch Komugi-chan Magikarte OAV finished, I suppose sales were good enough to justify going to the well one more time. Timewise, the episode gets inserted into the original series as episode 2.5, but it does feel like something done after the fact. Komugi-chan takes time to introduce all of the main players before the episode starts and even makes remarks seemingly acknowledging the episode is an afterthought. The setting just provides an excuse to show anime music videos. Kyousuke-kun has his video debut and of course Komugi-chan gets all "mugi" (for lack of a better term). Komugi then daydreams her own video where she sings about her love for Kyousuke-kun. Her seiyuu (and lead singer of the group Under17) Momoi Haruko has done several songs in her career so that was no surprise. And then Komugi-chan and her friend (and rival when she's in her Magical Maid form) Koyori sing at the end after the final credits. The songs weren't that great, unlike the normal latin-themed end theme was. As such, this episode is one that fankly I'd not want to see again. Magical Maid Koyori only shows up in the final video which is comprised of scenes from their various encounters. I suppose the episode is supposed to parody the whole Japanese music scene, but it wasn't that fun or interesting to me. Bottom line: worth seeing as part of the whole Komugi-chan series, but after that, it is a skipable episode.Last updated Saturday, April 09 2005. Created Saturday, April 09 2005. |
