After 2 buy ratings here I was eagerly awaiting this sequel. OMG What a disappointment it was.
Jubei was good, the old man was good. Shigure looked nasty. The thief wasn't much either.

There were too many filler episodes (In a 13 episode series?) No mention of Ninja Scroll OVA (Even though both star Jubei and the cop) The plot is really thin. The monsters are superpowerful but don't seen to know how to use their powers properly. A 3rd faction that comes out of NOWHERE. Too many unexplained questions that are answered in the last 10 minutes of the show. And then are tossed OUT OF THE WINDOW. What a waste of my time.

My gosh, this makes me wish for a Clone anime right now.....

This just degrades into a Monster-Of-The-Week Fight. Well it's a good MOTW fight, but it's not worthy of the Ninja Scroll name.

This series was very appealing, and it's worth the buy. A fitting sequel to the NS film, in this series we get to see Jubei's human side and leadership qualities. The subliminal romance with Shiyu is compelling, and the supporting protagonists are very funny without going over the top. The enemies are varied and complex, but once again the plot boggs down in historical politics that we ultimately don't care about and an objective (treasure) that is too lame for these great warriors. I mean, Indy Jones goes looking for treasure too, but he ends up fighting the evil Nazis to save the world. In this series we just feel like Jubei is preventing the demons from getting paid. Of course he wants to save Shiyu, but I wish the "universe hung in the balance" a little more. With mysterious, magical items like the Dragon Gem at the center of our attention, you'd think they could back it up with some higher purpose. Visuals are impressive as always (though a bit cheap looking at times for an anime of this quality), and the opening theme song is awesome. A little philosophy and humor is splashed in at the right times, and it's worth seeing multiple times (and you might have to if the subtitles on your copy are as bad as mine!).

Now after having watched Ninja Scroll the movie i thought how could the series be any good, but boy was it. This series is the story of Jubei Kibagami as he is intrusted to protect an ancient gem, that holds great power, as well as the one who can use it - the Light Maiden. The animation in this is much better than that of the movie. The art is superb too. Character designs are superior when compared to the movie. The music is great, i loved it. It's wonderfully composed and very well thought out by the famous Kintaro. Now the best improvement from the movie is in the story. I loved the story, it has a more "fun" vibe too it. Jubei reminds me of Spike Spiegel in the way he acts, he always wants to sleep and hates to be awakened. This series really was a pleasant surprise, i suggest everyone check it out, because this time even the weak stomached folks can enjoy it.
