Shiro Buta Kizoku desu ga Zense no Kioku ga Haeta node Hiyoko na Otōto Sodatemasu
(One episode watched)
There seems to be a trend in new anime during the Spring 2025 season: shows which take more than one episode just to explain their basic premise. There is no mention of this quarrel over the Kikunoi family fortune in episode one of Shirohiyo, and until I read the ANN synopsis I could only wonder what, if anything, was truly original about this show. It seemed to have a silly, goofy, even childish tone (it begins with the old warning about keeping the lights bright while watching). Episode one never grabbed my attention, in fact I almost quit watching and switched to something else. Why would the exploits of a reincarnated Japanese man as he raises his baby brother with memories from his past life be of any interest? Why was it included that his past life hobbies--things like cooking, sewing, gardening and handicrafts--were of little use to him as a nobleman's heir? Why is he so portly? He earns the favor of Princess Hyakka, the fertility Goddess, which I can only guess will be because she will warn him of what lies ahead if he becomes estranged from Regulus (and also so that he can learn to use magic). There's a hint of cleverness about the way Hyakka misleads various characters to get what she wants, but not nearly enough to make watching worthwhile. I don't think I got a single serious laugh out of episode one and Ageha hasn't been given an interesting personality. Basically, it seems that this show is trying to be a comedy about a potentially deadly situation, but it simply isn't funny. That must have been what made me start feeling nervous about this premise within the first two or three minutes (that, and the first 'joke' being Regulus plowing into his big brother and knocking him off his feet).
