Kai, a minor soldier fighting various demi-humans, figures his best chance of surviving and winning is by getting a 'Divine Crest', a mark upon one's face that indicates that you are protected by the Land God. Normally this is done by eating 'Godstones' taken from fallen opponents, but a minor soldier like him won't get many and he hopes to use a different route. He occasionally experiences strange visions and has gotten the idea that what's known as 'magic' exists somewhere. Meanwhile Jose, the daughter of the local nobleman, is frustrated at being considered useless in the war with the demi-humans.

(One episode watched):

In a matter of a couple of minutes it became clear that episode one of this show wasn't exciting me. It was pretty conventional. The only semi-intriguing touch were the 'memories I should have no knowledge of' that Kai occasionally experiences, including a view of a modern-day city in this world. These suggest that he has been Isekai'd to this world he now inhabitats. The fight with the 'macaques' wasn't all that exciting, perhaps because Kai was still a stranger at that point and because it wasn't correographed with much care. Kai largely remains a stranger at the end of the episode--just the usual videogame-like character who wants to 'eat, train and get stronger'. We are barely introduced to Jose, the female protagonist. At the end of the episode I still had no idea what sort of complex plot, if any, was coming together; just a guy who wants to be able to use magic (we all know he'll be great at it) and has some vague connection to this world or a similar one. The overall middling quality of episode one made it hard for me to believe this show would ever thrill me.
