'On a night with a bright full moon, where the wind is strong and the cats are in a frenzy, something strange will happen'. On just such a night, Akira stepped into a strange elevator and was transported not to her floor but to some alternate reality, where a host of sexy young wizards acclaim her as 'The Great Sage' and ask for her help in fighting 'The Great Calamity' and saving this world.

Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku - Promise of Wizard
(Part of one episode watched):
Choose your 'wizard': the responsible one, the impetuous one, the masculine one, the effeminate one ('He's so pretty, almost like he's made of glass')--I quickly got the impression that this was going to be a reverse harem meant to appeal to young girls. The ANN page listed no less than 21 wizards, and I knew I would never be able to keep track of that many, especially when nothing really original and intriguing about the premise had been revealed to make me want to. This reminds me of The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent from a few years ago--a woman who knows nothing of magic is transported to another world where she finds it really exists and she has tremendous potetial to master it. It was sort of neat that there are two factions, the wizards and the government, represented by Lord Drummond, who want her to ally with them. But here it is pretty clear which choice Akira should make, whereas I would have made it unclear who were the good guys and who were the bad, to instill a little uncertainty and drama. I don't like the implication that Akira herself (we are halfway through the episode before we learn that she does have a name after all) will be little more than a blank slate that any teenage girl can imagine herself replacing in a pick-your-boyfriend situation. If Akira has little personality and each Wizard has about 1/21 of one, this show will not be much fun to watch. Watching these hunks of Wizard fawn over Akira was boring to me, I don't consider magic to be particularly interesting, and I can think of no questions about this story that I would like answers to, so I think I will pass on this show.
