Five years after the events in the .hack video game series, The World invites twin siblings Shugo and Rena to play limited character players. These limited characters turn out to look exactly like Kite and Black Rose, the hero characters from the .hack video games, who were legendary .hackers that solved the riddle at the center of The World and made the game safe to play for everyone. Unfortunately, things start going sour as soon as Shugo and Rena show up; overpowered monsters killing low-level characters and sending their players into comas. It's up to Shugo, gifted with the Twilight Bracelet and the power of Data Drain, to solve the mystery and defeat whatever evil has taken over The World this time.

After seeing .hack//Sign, I thought I'd give this a try even though I wasn't impressed with the intial artwork above.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
So speaking of artwork...... hmmmm cute? Sorta depends on if you like the sorta "chibi" look. Okay, so it's nothing like the original in terms of artwork. Standing on its own, it's simply ok. Don't really care for the "chibi" look... or almost damn near "chibi" for the character designs.

Music
The OP seriously annoyed the hell out of me. The rest of the soundtrack had some violins and other string instruments. Most of the tracks were just too happy for me.

Series and Episode Story
I found this a bit too happy. The characters were to cute, the voices almost annoying and the story as a whole lacked the .hack franchise. However, if that said, the story itself wasn't a loss. It actually started turning out better than I imagined.

Overall, it's a love or hate... much like .hack//Sign... a hit or miss.

Now let me see how shall I talk about this anime. Oh I know it is about a brother and sister who win this contest. All of a sudden they find themselves in the video game. But there are some kids who are messing around the computer and unfortunately bad things are happening on the outside of the world. It is up to Shugo and Rena to keep this from happening. Along with some help from those in the game they are able to defeat the monsters.

It lacks what SIGN had. I will say it once, and I will keep saying it, SIGN is not boring, or confusing. This show really doesn't live up to the darkness and mystery of .hack//SIGN. I have to say that I am disappointed. The character voices, I found rather annoying. The Animation was good, but again, lacks what SIGN had. It wasn't dark, it wasn't chilling, it was too light and comical. I don't care if it had more action or not, action doesn't make anything good. They made some interesting choices, but still, they really really lack on the suspense of it. It is rather predictable. Not to mention the "What will happen next time" Highlight Videos at the end of every episode. That kind of spoils it in my opinion. This show was good but not good enough. If I had to choose Sign, or this I would chose SIGN. I'm fairly disappointed.

If you liked the plotline and character development in .hack//Sign, you'll probably be disappointed (like me.) However, this one makes up for what .hack//Sign lacked: fast-moving plot, more action scenes, better animation, fan service

Much, much better than Hack Sign. The story is more interesting by far, the World makes more sense, and the characters are cuter. It's like Bandai (or whoever) looked at the negative comments about Hack Sign and fixed everything.

Series started in Japan on January 8, 2003. We once again return to 'The World' where trouble is afoot again. It seems nobody has yet sloved the problem of people going into commas... you think by now someone would have noticed too.
Anyway, this series is similiar as the other two .hack series and the game; this time in Chibi form. 'The World' is also much nicer looking than what was seen in .hack//SIGN. This series a must see for .hack fans worldwide or, if your not, check it out anyway. Regardless, their will be always elements in the series will just not make sense nor explianed, so don't expect answers.
