Black-haired Tsuchiya Mao and blond Otomo Hisashi are second-year college students and roomates and have gotten to know and like each other. After a year Mao makes an unexpected discovery: Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend. The two make a pair of promises to each other: Mao will not tell anyone Hisashi's secret, and Hisashi will not make any sort of move on Mao. It just so happens that Mao belongs to the film club whose leader, Ichikawa Giichi, wants to make a boys love film and thinks the handsome Hisashi would be the perfect lead actor. He asks Mao to recruit his roomate. Meanwhile, Mao realizes that he may be beginning to have feelings for Hisashi.

I like the way the characters in this show interact. They have depth and are intriguing. This show goes the extra mile, like where one of the other club members offers to be the one who asks Hisashi to play the part when Mao is reluctant (it might break his promise, after all). It's funny at times, too--this is clearly the sort of show that a lot of work was put into. But one thing I definitely don't like is the way Mao suddenly has feelings for Hisashi--they seemed to come out of left field. We need to get to know Mao and Hisashi better and get some sort of plausible reason why Mao is falling in love with his roomate (who, remember, already has a boyfriend). I had been pretty sure that I'd be watching this show before this surprise occured, but now I'm not so certain. I did watch episode two, but found that I was much more interested in how work on the film would go than on the romance between Mao and Hisashi. Perhaps I can only deal with gay romance if I have gotten to know both characters well and am confident that they are trustworthy guys who mean no harm to anyone. And with the feelings suddenly popping up in the very first episode (and Hisashi breaking off his current romance in the second one) that condition has not been met here.
