Kimera is an attempt at blending science fiction and vampires. It's not entirely successful, but not entirely a failure. Character designs by Umetsu are one of the highlights in Kimera. His doll-like characters are always unique and recognizable( though the badguy here looks like a DBZ reject). The other thing worth mentioning is the spectacular battle scenes between two vampire brothers. Flying and fighting in the style I would imagine American superheroes doing battle, it is definately eyecatching. Oh, also notable is ADV's watchable english dub. Otherwise, Kimera is rather ho-hum. The rushed and, frankly, sloppy storytelling hurts what is an interesting set of ideas. However, the ending is predictable and forhead-slap inducing. Too much time was spent on gratuitous violence and not enough on plot clarification. A longer running time would have helped if the makers couldn't part with their beloved bloodshed. I short, Kimera is an interesting idea that never really finds itself. Also, there is graphic violence and strong sexual content, so if these things offend you, be aware. I felt it was worth checking out once, but I wouldn't watch it again. 1-3-02 Last updated Friday, January 03 2003. Created Friday, January 03 2003. |
