Machio Hiraku died a miserable death in a hospital intensive care bed after a terminal illness. The God who looks after him felt his life was such a cruel fiasco that he offers Hiraku a second one under pretty much whatever circumstances he chooses. Hiraku decides that he would like to be a healthy farmer. God arranges this, and provides him with 'the almighty farming tool', a versatile device that can transform into any simple implement that Hiraku wishes for.

(Two episodes watched):

At one point Hiraku mentions that he has an idea of how to get started as a settler in a wilderness based on a videogame he once played. Watching episode one of this series was sort of like watching somebody else play a videogame. Or sitting through a class on what to do if you find yourself alone in a forest. We learn how to design a good outhouse, dig a well and carve wooden planks to fit neatly together. But the one word I cannot say applies here is 'exciting'. It was kind of boring, in fact. We see that eventually Hiraku will have assembled a harem of well endowed girls to help him work his farm, but other than that and a brief appearance by God no other characters have entered the story yet at the end of the episode. Hiraku is not the most interesting person in the world to listen to as he talks to himself. He does not wonder how this system of various Gods might work or why some people apparently get to live more lives than others, or muse about the grandeur of nature. The basic premise--you get to live an easy life as compensation for a hard one, with a special device--reminds me of that smartphone anime from several years ago. I wish this story would move faster, because while my inclination is to drop it I can't be sure that it won't improve once other characters appear.

So, I watched episode two as well. The first girl shows up, Lu Lulucy, who happens to be a vampire. Hiraku is such a robust guy nowadays that he hardly notices having his blood sucked, and has been feeling lonely, so he invites Lulucy to join him. This show isn't completely vapid, but there are a lot of other series competing for my time this season and this one doesn't really have anything special about it. I thought about saving the episodes in case I ever experienced a shortage of fresh anime, like what happened last season, but ultimately decided this show wasn't worth the trouble.
