Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru
(One-and-a-half episodes watched):
This show reminds me of that recent series about the guy and girl who are jockying to get the other to be the first to admit they they are in love, because they feel it would be humiliating to do so themself. Except this show is less sophisticated--sort of like a dumbed-down version of the same premise. Ayumu has admitted that he thinks Urushi is cute, but that's about as far as he will go. When he does speak, he is honest to a fault. For some reason he will not confess his true feelings until he has won a game against the master shogi player, Urushi. There are hints that additional characters will enter the story, which would probably be good news since it's hard to see how this show could sustain itself with just two major characters for twelve episodes or so. This show has a sort of silly tone to it but it isn't uproariously funny and so far I don't sense much of a plot coming together. I started watching a second episode but it soon became clear that nothing had changed since the first and there were better uses for my time. Pretty average, I guess, which is to say not good enough for me.
