Cagaster of an Insect Cage is a sci-fi series depicting a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is attempting to survive against giant insects called Cagasters that humans mutated into. The series has the typical story elements of a post-apocalyptic setting, though does attempt to make an effort of fleshing things out with some of its major characters that share a common theme of what makes a "human" and what makes a "monster" between their morality and differing appearances from normal people, this explored through Kidou and Ilie's characters with the former realizing he's more human than he thinks and the latter coming to learn in later episodes that she's not so normal. The exploration of this storytelling theme is hit or miss with how it is implemented with said characters, working effectively with some characters better than others dependent on the execution of its story focus. The use of CG animation will be an acquired taste for viewers as it looks decent in distant shots, but looks rough in closer camera shots and is especially bad to see in action with the giant insects. In short, Cagaster is largely pretty standard fare for a sci-fi series in a post-apocalyptic setting. It does have its moments of decent storytelling with exploring its "human" and "monster" moral leanings, but doesn't necessarily break any new ground. I'd at least say rent or stream first before buying it to see if it catches your interest.
