(Rent-) (Both episodes watched): There are so many 'Tales of--' anime that I at first figured this must be a remake, but no, it seems to be an original work. And it initially seemed pretty neat. The first thing that struck me was the quality artwork in the backgrounds--that's definitely a good omen for the quality of the show as a whole. We meet Leo, Celia and Lisette as they take on a gorilla-like monster. There's definitely at least a hint of CG to the animation, but the action is fast moving and fluid. Some shows are all action and little personality, but here the fight is short and we learn that Leo likes to be seen as 'noble' (and a little sympathy is even expressed for the monster). Conversation with Lisette, and a good deed he agrees to do reveals more about him. Afterwards the plot wasn't quite as original as I had hoped, but it was modestly interesting. Being a mere two episodes long (around half an hour each), things shouldn't get stale. I got the impression that this was likely based on a video game, because the remainder of this show was mostly action and it seemed that I was expected to already be fairly familiar with the characters and situation. Leo and Celia's old friend Hugo is now working for the Empire, and while he experiences some doubts when Leo reminds him of the commitment to 'justice' that he once felt, he doesn't switch sides and the story feels distinctly incomplete at the end.
