Nam's home planet of Aqualoid has become a barren wasteland since the invasion of the Inorganics. However, he soon discovers SHADE, a sword with the power to control Aqualoid and give power back to its people. There's just one problem, every Inorganic on the planet wants to see the sword destroyed and Nam and his friends dead.

The mid-1980s was a time where animation studios were getting a bit experimental with what they can show off for animation with their anime titles, especially with the new OVA format spawned by Dallos in 1983 that would allow more creative freedom for studios without the constraints of the TV format as far as budgeting and content regulations go. Birth was a title following said trend, having nice animation for its time with its nicely-detailed character and Inorganic designs, as well as elaborate animated sequences coming from Nam and other human characters fleeing from and combating Inorganic threats. But as far as story goes, Birth is as straightforward as you can get as Nam and his companions frequently encounter Inorganics throughout this OVA's 80-minute run and some vague details on said threat being some sort of primordial counter-force to organic beings like humans. The only thing sticking out with the story is Birth's rather dark ending, which I won't spoil here for anyone that gets curious of wanting to see the OVA. Beyond that, I'd say Birth is largely forgettable outside its nice visuals since there isn't much else that sticks out with its storytelling compared to other sci-fi titles of its era.
