Kimizuka Kimihiko is a trouble magnet. He has a knack for stumbling across crime and seedy behavior. His latest bit of trouble is that he has been obliged by strangers to carry a suspicious attache case on an international flight. He gets another surprise when a stewardess asks the passengers 'Is there a detective on board?', and the oddly dressed girl beside him, Siesta, raises her hand.

(One double-length episode watched):

This show seemed kind of fun at first: a flamboyantly dressed girl with a laid-back attitude who nevertheless describes herself as a 'legendary' detective. She seemed pretty sharp as she quickly drew some reasonable conclusions about a dangerous person aboard the plane. But her conclusions soon extended to the point where you'd think that only a mind reader could have reached them. And things went south in a hurry when this villain sprouted some sort of deadly sharp giant blade from his left ear. It turns out he's an android, and I could only guess that Siesta was one as well when she did patently impossible things. We are told of SPES, a secret criminal outfit which 'produces androids of superhuman intellect to covertly menace the world' (why?). Then there's the silver musket that was stored in a container that was far too small for its length. There's no way Siesta could have grabbed 'Kimi' and fled from the cramped cockpit faster than this bad guy could land a blow. Basically, I found I could not suspend disbelief enough to take this premise seriously, and this was when the biggest whopper--that Siesta is actually dead--had yet to be revealed. The show seemed to wobble back and forth between mystery and the occult. Mystery demands that the solution to the crime make sense and conform to the clues and the laws of physics, but this show didn't seem to be worrying about things like those. This was an extra long episode--two episodes, really--and the impression I got from these first two cases was that the mysteries that were being solved were outlandish and even outright absurd. The solutions feel like a let-down rather than something thrilling. I was left asking myself why this show had had to be so bizarre. I wish Siesta had been just smart, not some sort of ghost detective who employs gadgets like special blood-filled bullets.
